Disaster! | April 17 - May 3, 2026
About
It’s 1979, and New York’s hottest A-listers are lining up for the opening of a floating casino and discotheque, where a night of boogie fever quickly turns to panic as the ship is rocked by one disaster after another. As the night turns into day, everyone struggles to survive and maybe even repair the love they’ve lost... or at least escape the killer rats. It's all set to the unforgettable sounds of the ’70s like “Knock on Wood,” “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Saturday Night,” “I Am Woman,” “Hot Stuff,” and more!
Audiences and critics are wild for this hilarious homage to the era of bell-bottoms, platform shoes, and the hustle, packed with larger-than-life characters, snappy dialogue, and some of the most recognizable songs of the decade that will have you dancing in your seats and rolling in the aisles.
Director’s Note
Welcome, and thank you for joining us for Disaster!
I’m thrilled and honored to be directing at Aurora Community Theatre for the first time! Disaster! pays tribute to 1970s disaster films and music. We have had a blast recreating natural disasters on stage, grooving out to iconic ‘70s hits, and diving into this fast-paced comedy.
I’ve enjoyed watching this cast grow throughout the rehearsal process. They’ve created dynamic characters that pay homage to classic movie tropes while fully embracing the absurdity of it all. They’ve also put in a lot of work outside of rehearsal to make this show the success it is, so thank you for giving it your all!
I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our entire production team. This show wouldn’t be possible without you. And to our audience, thank you for supporting the arts. Theatre has been a positive and transformative experience for me. I hope it can be the same for you. Theatre brings us together, inspires us to grow, and challenges us to become the best versions of ourselves. It’s a place where I, and so many others, truly feel at home.
So sit back and embrace the chaos!
P.S. Beware of man-eating piranhas… and rats… and sharks… and well, you’ll see.
